“...get up to speed with what’s going on in the world.”

22. If this isn’t your dream job, keep it to yourself.  Working is necessary, not necessarily evil. If your dream is to open your own business or to open at Carnegie Hall, that’s wonderful. Remind yourself of your dream every day. Don’t remind the people at work. If you have a job, do it well, with style and enthusiasm. Don’t let on that this is just a temporary gig until you make your big move, even if it’s true. If you do encounter someone at work who can help you on your way, then speak up. However, the vast majority of your clients, customers, and co-workers need you to help them by doing your job. You are denigrating your relationship with them if you constantly point out that you’d rather be doing something else.

23. Stay informed. Most towns have newspapers that retail for 50¢. All the major TV networks have nightly news casts. Find at least two news outlets and get up to speed with what’s going on in the world. This won’t be difficult; modern media are lavishly illustrated and laced with just enough hyperbole that you may actually enjoy keeping abreast of major developments. Late night comedians and political blogs are wonderful, but they are not substitutes for genuine information.

24. Know how much sleep you require and get it.   By the time you reach age 25, you have fallen asleep over 9,000 times. Surely the experience is no longer novel or disconcerting. Staggering into work half-dressed and clamoring for coffee should be the exception, not the rule.
